Western Verbena  (Verbena lasiostachys ssp. lasiostachys)
Plant: Branching perennial herb to 3 feet tall.
Flowers: Purple clustered in terminal spikes.
Leaf: Coarsely toothed, upper surface grayish green, usually hairy, best developed at the base, becoming smaller toward the top of the stems.  Stems are square like the related mint family.
Flowering period:   May to September
