Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Spittlebug
A slippery, snow-white froth on plants in the spring.  The froghopper egg is laid in  plant tissue in the autumn.  When the egg hatches it attaches its sucking beak into a tender stem.  Bubbles are blown into the waxy secretion forming a sticky protective sheath while the young froghopper grows.
