Smilax  (Smilax ssp.)
Plant: Perennial climbing vine with conspicuous tendrils and thorny stems used for floral decoration.  A native of the Cape of Good Hope.
Flowers: Small greenish-white in clusters.
Fruit: Clusters of shiny black berries.
Leaf: Oval alternating on the stems, smooth, glossy green, 1 inch long.
Flowering period:   Spring
