Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Scarlet Pimpernel  (Anagallis arvensis)
Plant: Annual, branched, low spreading, not hairy, 4 to 10 inches tall.  Stems are four sided.  Common.
Flowers: Solitary on stems. 5 petals, salmon colored, yellow center.
Leaf: Opposite on the stems, egg shaped to oval, 1/4 to 3/4 inches long.
Flowering period:   March to July
