Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay
Salty Susan, Fleshy Jaumea (Jaumea  carnosa)
Plant:  A fleshy perennial with creeping branched rhizomes and numerous, mostly simple, more or less prostrate or ascending stems.  They grow in the upper areas of the salt marsh.
Flowers: Resemble tiny sunflowers, in terminal heads on short stems.
Leaf:  Linear, fleshy 3/4 to 1 -1/2 inches long, 1/8 inch wide. 
Flowering period:   January to December
