Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Red Goosefoot, Alkali Goosefoot  (Chenopodium rubrum)
Plant: Erect glabrous branching annual, green with stout red stems, 8 inches to 2 feet high.
Flowers: On short stems in leaf axils, fleshy, crowded on stem.
Leaf: Triangular shape with serrated edges. Become thicker and redder as they mature.
Flowering period:   July to October

Native Plant: No Halophyte: Yes
