Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Purple Nightshade  (Solanum xanti)
Plant: Perennial, woody stemmed 1-1/2 to 3 feet tall.  Stems covered with soft, short hairs.
Flowers: Petals are 5 lobed, dark lavender to deep violet.
Berries:  Greenish, 5/16 inch in diameter.

Leaf: Oval, usually smooth margined, sometimes wavey, 3/4 to 1-1/2 inches long.
Flowering period:   February to July
