Prickly Lettuce  (Lactuca serriola)
Plant: Annual or biennial herb, stiff, bristly, 2 to 5 feet tall.
Flowers: Yellow flower heads 3/8 to 1/2 inch diameter, clustered in short stems at the top of the stalk.
Leaf: Clasping the stems alternately, 1-1/2 to 6-1/2 inches long, slightly toothed edges with spines along the midrib.
Flowering period:   May to September
