Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Pampas Grass  (Cortaderia selloana)
Plant: Evergreen grass that forms dense fountain like clumps 5 to 15 feet tall.  This is an extremely invasive plant that was introduced from South America for its looks. 
Flowers: One foot tall white to pink plumes above the foliage.  Female and male flowers are on different plants.
Leaf: Narrow, 1/2 to 3/4 inch wide,, up to 10 feet long.  The leaves have extremely sharp edges.
Flowering period:  August to October
