Plant: Perennial herb, stout, sometimes branching, 2 to 5

Flowers: Flower heads on racemes that attach between the leaf
stem
and the main stems. |

Leaf: Elliptical shape with smooth edges. Green
and usually
hairless above, densely gray-woolly beneath. Will show lighter
lower
surface of leaf towards the sun in hot weather as a protection from the
heat. |

Poultice was used to alleviate rashes. Used as a
laxative and in male and female initiation rites.
