Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay
Hottentot Fig  (Carpobrotus edulis)
Plant: Perennial, succulent with many trailing stems to 3 feet long, forming mats.  It is often planted along highways and banks supposedly to control erosion, but is not effective in heavy rains.  From South Africa where the fruit is eaten.  The leaves are said to be a pleasant addition to salads.  Common.  Invasive.
