Giant Wild Rye  (Leymus condensatus)
Plant: A large perennial clumping green grass, reaching 10 feet. Sometimes listed as Elymus.
Flowers: Dense spike-like inflorescence.
Leaf: Large, up to 2 feet long and 3/4 inch wide.
Flowering period:   June to August
Use by Indians:  Leaves used in construction and as fibers.  Fire hardened stems used for arrow shafts.
