Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Garden Stock, Common Stock  (Matthiola incana)
Plant: Biennial herb, stout, erect, 20 inches tall, branching near the top.
Flowers: Usually purple, about 1 - 1/4 inch diameter with 4 petals.
Seeds: Seed pods 3 to 6 inches long.
Leaf:  Alternate on stems, 2 to 6 inches long, smooth edged to wavy with some saw-toothed.
Flowering period:   March to May
