Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Fremont Cottonwood (Populus fremontii)
Plant: This tree has deciduous leaves and can grow to be 75 feet tall. 
Flowers: In catkins with male and female flowers on different trees.
Leaf: The leaves have serrated edges and are somewhat triangular in shape.  The leaves have flattened stems that cause the leaves to spin in the slightest breeze. They are green on both sides.
Flowering period:   March to April
