Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Fiesta Flower  (Pholistoma auritum)
Plant: Annual, succulent, straggling branches,  1 to 3-1/2 feet long.  Prickles on stems and leaves.  Common.
Flowers: Solitary, lavender to purple in color.
Leaf: Lance shaped lobed leaves 2 to 6 inches long, stems broadly winged.  Covered with small bristly hairs on both sides.
Flowering period:   March to May
