Poison Hemlock does not smell of licorice, has purple blotches on the stems
and has white flowers.
Flowers: This member of the carrot family has umbrella-shaped clusters
of bright, lemon-yellow flowers.
Leaf and Stem: finely divided, thread-like leaves which give off a
licorice smell when handled.
Flowering period:
May to September
Use by Spanish Californians:
It was spread on the mission floors to give a pleasant scent when bruised
by the feet of the congregation.
