Common Plantain (Plantago major)
Plant: Perennial herb with several leafless flower stems 4 to 16 inches high rising from a basal leaf  structure.
Flowers: Many 1/16 inch clustered on a dense spike  4 to 16 inches long.
Leaf: Basal, thick, broadly elliptic, 2 to 8 inches long, with conspicuous converging veins.
Flowering period:   April to September
