Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Coast Goldenbush  (Isocoma menziesii var vernonioides)
Plant: Perennial erect shrub, branching from the base, 1 1/2 to 4 feet tall.  Common.
Flowers: Yellow flower heads in dense terminal clusters, 1/4 to 3/8 inches long. 
Leaf: Alternate on stems, linear to oblong, tipped with small spines 3/8 to 1 1/2 inches long. Upper leaves diminished, less toothier and often in small clusters.
Flowering period:   February to September
