Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Club Rush  (Scirpus cernuus)
Plant: Small annual grass like herb with fibrous roots and solid stems, 3 sided, with basal leaves.  2 to 10 inches tall.  Also known as Fiber Optic Plant.
Flowers: Spikelet is solitary at the end of stems, 1/32 inch long, becoming brownish at maturity.
Leaf: Thread like up to 12 inches long with three sided solid stems.
