Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Cheeseweed  (Malva parviflora)
Plant: Annual, branched, 12 to 30 inches tall, sparsely hairy to hairless.
Flowers: In dense clusters where leaf stem meets main stem.  Small flower with five pinkish pedals.
Fruit: Circular fruit is shaped like a miniature block of cheese.
Leaf: Somewhat round, sharply lobed, saw-toothed, 1 to 5 inches wide, with a red spot at the base and long leaf-stems.
Flowering period:   January to December
