California Poppy, (Eschscholzia californica)
| Flowers: The 4 satiny, showy, orange petals are up to 2 ½ inches
long. There are numerous stamens and 1 pistil. The 2 united
pistils fall early exposing a prominent, horizontal rim on the receptacle.
At maturity, the seed vessel opens abruptly with an almost audible pop
and throws the seed some distance. |
