Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Brass-buttons  (Cotula coronopifolia)
Plant: Herbaceous, rather succulent, strong-scented perennials, a foot or so tall, usually with many clustered stems spreading on the ground.  Native to South Africa that came early to California.
Flowers: The flower heads are roundish-flattened, about 3/8 inch across and borne on long, naked stalks.  Bright yellow. 
Leaf: The yellowish-green leaves, alternating and clasping the stem, assume many shapes and forms on the same plant. 
Flowering period:   March to December
