Some Common Plants of Upper Newport Bay

Australian Saltbush  (Atriplex semibaccata)
Plant: Low perennial shrub with many branches, prostrate with many leaves.
Flowers: Green, female flowers in axils, male flowers in small clusters at the stem ends.
Fruit: Many small bright red flame shapped.
Leaf: Alternate on stems, elliptic shaped, 3/8 to 1-1/4 inches long with short stems. Wavy margins are slightly toothed.
Flowering period:   April to December
