| An area of
approximately 154 square miles of urban Orange County drains into
Upper Newport Bay. Storm water runoff from this watershed brings
with it trash, and other less-obvious pollutants including bacteria
and other pathogens, and sediment. The proximity of the surrounding
communities brings other threats such as non-native plant invasions
and detrimental recreational use that cross jurisdictional
boundaries. Several endangered bird and plant species are found here
that must be protected. All of these factors must be taken into
account when restoration projects are considered. Several major
projects are underway. Information will added to and/or updated on
the various web pages listed. Please check back periodically to find
out about these projects.
