The fifth annual “Paint Back Bay” event that
the Southern California Plein Air Painters Association (www.socalpapa.com)
held at Upper Newport Bay in collaboration with
the Naturalists, Newport Beach Arts Foundation and Orange County
Parks on July 26 and 27 was a great success. See Daily
Pilot coverage.
In conjunction with the event, there was a
separate competition to select a plein air painting that will be
recreated at mural size as part of a stunning new exhibit at the
entrance to the Interpretive Center.
Thirteen finalists were selected from nearly 40 entries. The winning
entry was Shadowed Bluffs by Greg LaRock, who received a $5,000
purchase award from the Naturalists.
You can view Greg's painting and other finalists on display at
the Interpretive Center through August 31. All paintings other than
Greg's are available for sale there. The center is open Tuesday
through Sunday from 10 until 4. Admission and parking are free.
