Cleanup Day trash collection
We know that only through cooperation and coalitions can we accomplish our mission to protect and preserve Upper Newport Bay, and we take every opportunity to foster and facilitate collaboration here at the Bay and in the watershed. We are grateful for the team spirit that exists within the local staff of the management agencies and other stakeholders with whom we work. Together we will continue to achieve great things.
The Annual Upper Newport Bay Cleanup Day which takes place each September is a shining example of partnership in action. Over 1,200 people venture out into the marsh from the land and the water to remove over 10,000 lbs. of trash in a well-coordinated effort. After a hard morning’s work they are treated to lunch courtesy of the Rotary and the local Fire Department, which does the barbequing. Event partners include:
- California Department of Fish and Game
- Orange County Parks
- California Coastal Commission
- City of Newport Beach
- Newport Aquatic Center
- Newport Sea Base
- Newport-Balboa Rotary Club
In addition many other organizations contributed to the success of the event.
